Kings of Leon get shat on, diss own song, cancel remixes and talk new album

Last weekend the Kings of Leon cancelled their show in St Louis after just three songs.

After finishing 'Taper Jean Girl', the third song of the set, the band left the stage and refused to return citing concerns for their safety.

The band’s drummer Nathan Followill tweeted to explain the sudden end to the show: “So sorry St. Louis. We had to bail, pigeons shitting in jareds mouth. Too unsanitary to continue… Don’t take it out on Jared, it’s the fucking venues fault. You may enjoy being shit on but we don’t. Sorry for all who traveled many miles.”

As no explanation was offered to the punters from the stage mass confusion ensued, with the angry crowd booing, chanting and breaking bottles. Fans have been offered their money back by the band.

On another KOL note, in a recent interview with the Toronto Sun, lead guitarist Caleb Followill spoke about the band's new record.

"There are definitely times when it’s very tropical and beachy,” he explained refering to drummer Nathan Followill recent comments about the album “but there is always that dark chord in there that makes it Kings of Leon. But we have actually done some things on this album that we’ve wanted to do for a long time, and I truly feel like with each album, we are getting closer to what it is that we want to do as a band.”

In the interview the band also reveals that they have been listening to Beach House, The Band, Yeasayer, Grizzly Bear, The Drums, Temper Trap, and Kris Kristofferson for inspiration. “Pitchfork is going to love the new album”, Jacob Followill sarcastically said.

When asked how the band feels about artists covering 'Use Somebody' at live shows, Caleb Followill said that “we obviously get embarrassed when we see a lot of people covering that song, because we feel like it’s been done, but it’s definitely better than if they were covering that piece of shit 'Sex on Fire'”.

Finally, remember when there was talk of KOL releasing a remix album? Remember vomitting at the idea? Well, it looks like they may agree. "We kind of put the remix album on hold for a second until we feel like it's necessary. We don't want to saturate the market too much and have too many things out there to where people are just like, 'To hell with Kings of Leon, they are everywhere.'"

O.Children release their debut album with a bullet

London-based outfit O. Children are currently causing a huge stir in our offices. The UK's newest doom and gloom enthusiasts O. Children clearly have a serious thing for Nick Cave. Not only did they name themselves after a Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds song, but their music sounds a lot like the Aussie icon's too.

The band released their self-titled debut album on July 12th. The band's main man Tobi O'Kandi spoke with ClashMusic recently and he gave a track by track breakdown of the album's songs.

'Malo'
"Malo is not so much about a woman, as it's just about life. I think it might be about trying so hard to get away from something and then when you do get away from it you realise it was the only thing keeping you together. It means bad, or naughty in Spanish. It's also the name of Carlos Santana's brother's band.

'Dead Disco Dancer'
First song I ever wrote with O. Children. I have no idea where it came from and it was always meant to be a b-side. But I really like it. It has nothing to do with The Smiths. I have only ever heard one song by the Smiths in my life.

'Heels'
This lady always hung out at the same bar/club as I did a few years ago. She always looked so well put together, yet so sad. All the time. She also always wore heels.

'Fault Line'
Rebellion. Teen Angst. Stuff like that.

'Smile'
This happened when I was alone at Christmas. I'd never seen anywhere so empty ever. It didn't bring me down or anything. I just liked how quiet it was.

'Ezekiel's Son'
My father is called Ezekiel. He has been an ordained priest for about a year and 4 months and no one told me till about 2 weeks ago. This song speaks for itself.

'Ruins'
The closest I will ever get to writing the script to a movie based in the desert. I'm really into Westerns and guns. In fact throughout this whole album I think I might mention a gun in every song except two of them. This song also covers pretty much every subject in the whole album, condensed into 5m 06s.

'Radio Waves'
My favourite song on the record and live and ever. Another western influenced song.

'Pray The Soul Away'
The newest O. Children song. Another one that doesn't really have a story. It just happened and we liked it so we went with it.

'Don't Dig'
I was having a long drunken conversation with my cousin about death and the last rites. I decided I didn't want anything fancy.

'Lily's Man' (hidden track)
A silly song about boner rage. My favourite song ever."

It would be easy to compare these guys to the likes of Interpol and Editors or even more so sounding at times like Joy Division copyists with hints of Echo and The Bunnymen. However, O. Children sound less calculated and contrived and are instantaneously addictive. It seems these four lads (still only 19 to 21), could quite have possibly created one of the most exciting bands and albums of 2010.

19 Killed and 300 injured at Love Parade

At least 19 people were killed at the Love Parade dance music festival over the weekend near Dusseldorf, Germany. The deaths occurred in the wide tunnel that served as an entrance to festival grounds.

According to reports, crowds panicked and stampeded when police attempted to close off the tunnel, as the festival was becoming overcrowded. In the ensuing panic, reports are that at least 300 people were also injured.

Emergency workers had trouble getting into the tunnel, as the huge festival crowd had spilled out into the route designated for emergency vehicles. The L.A. Times estimates that 1.4 million people attended the event, held for the first time on an old train yard in the German city of Duisberg.

The festival continued on after the deaths, as many attendees knew nothing about the tragedy. According to the Times, police decided to keep the event going to prevent causing more panic.

Here's some footage found on YouTube.

Gorillaz announce Australian tour for December

Thanks to one of our fans Mr Dave M for this piece of info.............

Gorillaz's much anticipated visit to Australia — already confirmed by Damon Albarn on British radio — has been confirmed by the promoters.
Albarn told BBC’s Zan Lowe recently, when asked about a world tour, "'World tour’ sounds daunting. But we’re doing 22 dates in Europe, and Australia.” But he didn't specify when.

This week, Gorillaz band 'member' Murdoc Niccals dropped another mischievous hint about Australasian shows. He twittered "I think we’ve got platypuses on Plastic Beach! Or do I mean platypii? Could be hallucinating, had a lot of peyote in my coffee this morning.”

Now, we can confirm that Gorillaz will be performing at the big arenas this December
In the past, the Gorillaz have been hesitant to tour, but that's changed with the release of their latest album 'Plastic Beach'.

Last month's Glastonbury appearance, when they replaced U2 headline slot after Bono’s back surgery, was even more thrilling. They were joined by Lou Reed, Snoop Dogg, Shaun Ryder, De La Soul, Bobby Womack and The Fall’s Mark Smith. The band featured The Clash's guitarist and bassist Mick Jones and Paul Simonon, plus a string section and a brass band.

Whether they’ll bring any famous friends with them to Australia is up in the air. Albarn’s approach is that it’s presumptuous to ask busy people to change their schedule for them. But he says, “when something gets momentum, people are attracted to it.”

Gorillaz tour dates:

December 6 - Burswood Dome, Perth WA
December 8 - Adelaide Entertainment Centre, Adelaide SA
December 11 - Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne VIC
December 16 - Sydney Entertainment Centre, Sydney NSW
December 19 - Brisbane Entertainment Centre, Brisbane QLD

Looking at these dates stay tuned for more shows to be announced.

Tickets on sale August 6th through Ticketek.
